- Horst P. Horst - "The Magician of Light"
(*1906, Weißenfels, Germany -
†1999, Palm Beach, Florida, U.S.A.)
Horst P. Horst (*1906 as Horst P. Bohrmann at Weißenfels an der Saale /
Germany) is the "painter" among all photographers. His photos express an incomparable elegance, beauty and
taste in combination with a magical, "illusionistic" atmosphere of light.
Among his most famous photographs are the "Mainbocher Corset" and
"Odalisque" (see left side) and a portrait of Coco Chanel.
Apart from fashion-photography, he made many portrait-photographs (i.e. Cecil Beaton, Jacqueline Bouvier,
Maria Callas, Coco Chanel, Salvador Dali, Marlene Dietrich, Harry S.
Truman, Andy Warhol) and created artful still lifes.
For a long time he worked for "VOGUE France", "VOGUE America" and "House
& Garden". Vintage prints of his photographs achieve highest prices in photograph-auctions.
