Maurice Millière
* December 12th 1871, Le Havre (France)
† April 5th 1946, Yport (France)
Maurice Millière was a French painter, etcher and illustrator. Born in Le Havre he moved to Paris in 1889 to finish his studies at the L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts and L'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs.
Besides his artwork as a painter, Millière was a successful illustrator for French magazines like "La Vie Parisienne" , "Le Sourire" or "Le Frou-Frou".
He became well known for his "petites femmes" or "femmes poupées, which were also an inspiration for the pin-up artwork of Alberto Vargas. With his work Millière was a protagonist of the so called Boudoir Art.
From 2016 on Maurice Millière's work is now in public domain. Hopefully we will be able to acquire some more of his cheerful and dainty pin-up postcards to show on this page.
