Friedrich Wencker-Wildberg
Mata Hari. Tänzerin, Kurtisane, Spionin.
Hoffmann & Campe Verlag, Hamburg 1936
152 pages, 4 b&w images; German language
This little book is the first biography of Mata Hari, in which the author tries to rely on historical facts, as far as available at that time. It seems that many of more recent biographists just used a lot of his informations. Nevertheless the book is written in kind of a novel, and we can assume that Wencker-Wildberg enriched the facts with his own thoughts and assumptions. Matching to the publication time, the writing style is quite melodramatic. This makes it sometimes difficult to filter the facts, especially because Wencker-Wildberg doesn't mention any sources for his biography.
