This very interesting book describes the fascination of the ancient character of Salome during the Belle Epoque. Promoted by Marcel Proust's novel and Richard Strauss' opera Salome had several protagonists of dancers on theatrical stages all over Europe. The book tells us the biography of four famous women who performed the Salome on stage during the Belle Epoque: Maud Allan, Mata Hari, Ida Rubinstein and Colette.
