Harry Pilcer
* April 29th 1885, New York City (New York, USA)
† January 14th 1961, Cannes (France)
Harry Pilcer was an American dancer and entertainer, mostly known for his performances with the Belle Epoque stars Gaby Deslys and Mistinguett. Together with his partner Gaby Deslys Pilcer was performing in four Broadway musicals and a movie called "Her Triumph" (1915). The "Gaby-Glide" dance was created by Ned Wayburn for Deslys and Pilcer for the play "Vera Violetta" in 1911.
While continuing their career in Europe and Paris, World War I and Deslys' early death in 1920 due to several complications of an influenza infection unfortunately terminated their successful collaboration. Pilcer was furthermore successful with Mistinguett and other dancers on different Paris theatre stages. He also acted in several more movies. Later in the 1920s Harry Pilcer ran a dancing school in Paris.
The handsome Harry Pilcer is the first male artist in our gallery of Belle Epoque artists and models. We hope to find some more postcards of him.
