Stacia Napierkowska
(Renée Claire Angèle Élisabeth Napierkowski)
* September 16th 1891(1886?), Paris (France)
† May 11th 1945, Paris (France)
Stacia Napierkowska was a French ballet and variety dancer and actress of the Belle Epoque in Paris. She debuted as a dancer at the Folies Bergère, then dancing also at the Bouffes Parisiens and the Opéra Comique.
Between 1908 and 1926 Stacia Napierkowska appeared in 86 (!) silent movies, which are listed at the International Movie Database. Some of her most known are "L'Atlantide" (1921) and "Les Vampires" (1915).
Because of her beauty, a lot of directors were trying to cast her for their movies.
Concerning her unusual name for a French actress, the only detail we found so far is, that her father, Stanisław Artur Napierkowski, was from Cracow, Poland, who married a French woman. They first lived in Montenegro, then moving to Paris.
In 1913 she caused some rumour on her American tour, when she got arrested in New York City after performing some of her exotic dances, which were declared indecent. She was not very amused about her stay in the USA, which she expressed in the following quote for the New York Times:
Stacia Napierkowska is buried at Batignolles Cemetery, Paris.
