Mary (Marie) Irber
* 1884, Langenisarhofen (Germany)
† August 2nd 1967, Munich (Germany)
Mary Irber was a popular German cabaret artist, dancer and singer at Munich/Germany in the early 20th century. She had performances on Munich theatre stages, in example the "Intimes Theater". A few moralists called here stage-outfit quite indecent. Contemporaries, i.e. Frank Wedekind, describe her young appearance as "very pretty and elegant with many admirers". Some contemporary newspapers and columnists call her the "Vamp of German Theatre" (Dietrich Schulz-Köhn, "Vive la chanson"; Bertelsmann Sachbuchverlag, 1969).
She also acted in a movie called "Doch mit des Schicksals Mächten" in 1920 (?) as a variety-star called "Maruschka".
We found a portrait of Mary Irber by the Austrian painter Leopold Schmutzler (1864-1941).
There are several series of postcards published by the German publisher Rotophot (RPH). Some of the postcards display her name and the name of the Munich photographer Heinrich Traut (1857- 1940). Most of Mary Irber's postcards show her in gorgeous dresses. Some postcards are anonymous and more foxy, dressed in underskirts. The postcards have different colorizations and sometimes additional ornamentations.
